LayLo3D Pose Library for Maya – Now Available!

August 13, 2019 22 comments

Now you can use Daz 3D poses directly in Maya and save HumanIK poses to use them again later!

I’d like to introduce my LayLo3D Pose Library for Maya.

My Pose Library creates a user interface in Maya for both your Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 Male and Female poses. It automatically finds your Daz 3D content libraries and pulls the poses from their corresponding folders.

It’s compatible with HumanIK (HIK) and doesn’t require the use of any specific HIK definition to work properly. It includes a HIK calibration tool to figure out your custom HIK definition and then work accordingly.

It automatically converts pose from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 and from Genesis 8 to Genesis 3.

It has a built in “Pose Mixer” feature that allows you to right click on a pose in it’s library and select which limb from the preset you would like to take the pose information from and apply it to your characters corresponding limb.

It includes a “Custom HumanIK” pose library allowing you to save your own HIK poses complete with a snapshot of the pose for easy reference. If you don’t use HIK it has one for poses based off the characters joint rotation values as well.

    hey,
i wanted to know if the plugin saved animations or if it only saved poses (it is in the name but maybe it did work for animation as well). thank you!

    Hi Laylo,
I bought your Maya plugins and I’m a Maya user, but have you considered creating plugins for other software like 3ds max or Cinema 4d? The daz bridges are terrible and porting your plugins to C4D/3ds max would be amazing!
    Thanks for your work.

    • LayLo says:

      Hi Ethan!

Thanks for using my products! I would like to expand to other apps, but it can be expensive to maintain licenses to so many applications. 🙁

This plugin doesn’t work with Gen 8.1 models.

    • LayLo says:

Hi, Thanks for using my products!

I just submitted an update to Daz making it compatible with Genesis 8.1. It should be live in probably 2-4 weeks. If you need the update sooner you can email me at laylo3d@gmail.com.

      Sorry for any inconveniences.

Hey Laylo love your stuff. Just got pose library and im getting an error. All its saying when I try to load up the plug in is
    Error Line 1: (Laylo3Dposeibrary)

    • LayLo says:

      Hi!

I’m glad you’re enjoying my products, thanks for using them!

That error most likely means that it’s not installed correctly. Did you use Daz Install Manager, or where did you install it?

      • B. Hairston says:

Man thanks for the hasty response! I will uninstall am try again. Yes I am using install manager. Right now its in C/users/myuser/onedrive/documents/maya/plugins

Hello, this looks great – I just purchased it from the DAZ store – when I go to try to use it it says I need to enter a valid license key — where do I get this from????

    • LayLo says:

      Hi, thanks for your purchase.
Sorry about the license key thing, for some reason some people don’t get the key auto emailed to them, but if you log into your Daz account and got to Serial Numbers, you should be able to find it there.
Let me know if you need additional help.

    Hallo
I want use pose library for two or three characters in my Maya scene but i have problems .
Can i use your tool for three characters in one scene ? Can you say how ?

    • LayLo says:

      Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response, I was super busy traveling.

You should be able to use it with multiple characters in one scene. If you can’t you may just need to import one character in at a time with Genesis 8 for Maya and then save them each as separate scenes before importing in the next. Then in a new empty scene create references to each of the other scene files that contain each character. Now Maya should have proper namespaces and separate rigs for each character allowing my Pose Library to work with all the characters individually.

      I hope that helps,
      Landon

Seems to be working well so far. However it doesn’t automatically load pose presets that I have created myself. I have to manually move these from “My Library” to “My Daz 3D Librray” in order for them to be found. Is it possible to get the plugin to search My Library too?

    • LayLo says:

Glad to hear it’s working well for you so far.

It will find all poses in all the Daz Studio Content Directories you have defined in your Daz Studio preferences that are in the “\People\Genesis 8 Female\Poses” folder structure. So as long as your “My Library” is defined as a content directory and the poses are in located in the “…\My Library\People\Genesis 8 Female\Poses” folder they should be found. I will probably add an option to add user defined folder paths here soon when I get a chance.

    • LayLo says:

I wanted to check in on this again. Were you able to solve the problem in a convenient way by defining another content directory? If not, email me, laylo3d@gmail.com and let me know it’s you. I have been working on an update for my Pose Library that lets you define some extra folders to be found in the UI I can send it your way.

      • Vinicius N Soares says:

        Hi LayLo,
1.I’m Having a similar issue. I can’t see genesis3 poses for both male and female on the library only the poses for genesis 8.

2.When I save a custom pose for human IK it seems like the pose only works for arms and torso, the legs don’t change at all. I’m using Maya 2020 in case that you wan to know.

        • LayLo says:

          Hello Vinicius,

          1. I just submitted a product update to Daz that will let you define folders for my Pose Library to find poses in which I believe should solve the problem for couples poses.

          2. I’m not able to reproduce this problem. I just tried in Maya 2020.1 and the legs posed properly from the saved HumanIK pose. When using your saved pose is “Ignore HIK Pinning” checked? If not, the default pinning will usually pin the feet in place which could be the problem.

          Hope that helps,
          Landon

  8. Cheyenne Robinson says:

    Hey Landon,

I am getting the below error when i try and load the Pose Library on my laptop. Can you help me out?

    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2019/scripts/others/pluginWin.mel line 317: RuntimeError: file D:/Users/LayLo/Documents/maya/plug-ins/LayLo3DPoseLibrary\LL3DPoseLibraryWorkspace.py line 140: Value is out of range: 1 //
// Warning: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2019/scripts/others/pluginWin.mel line 317: Failed to call script initialize function //
    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2019/scripts/others/pluginWin.mel line 317: (LayLo3DPoseLibrary) //

    • LayLo says:

That looks like an error that could happen when there isn’t content installed for all the supported generations of figures. I believe I have it fixed in the next updates roll-out, but I haven’t submitted it to Daz yet. I will email you the updated files.
