FaceCap X – Now Available! | Affordable Facial Motion Capture for Genesis 3/8 Characters

May 10, 2019 33 comments

FaceCap X has now been retired. An updated version will soon be available and re-branded as Face Mojo.

FaceCap X is a low cost facial motion capture solution for Autodesk Maya that allows you to quickly bring to life any Daz 3D Genesis 3 or Genesis 8 character.

Using an iPhone X or newer, record your mocap data with the Face Cap app then use our plug-in to quickly add 51 custom FACS blend shapes to any G8/G3 character and rig it’s face with just 1 click.

Then, with our easy to use setup import the Face Cap data and just like magic your characters face will come alive.

Key features include:

  • Add 51 FACS morphs to any Genesis 3/8 character whether in a new or existing scene.
  • Instantly rig your character’s face with 1 click.
  • Apply Face Cap data with 1 click.
  • Individual strength modifiers for all 51 blend shapes.
  • Ability to randomize strengths for independent areas of the face.

  1. Hello,
I purchased these plug ins about a year ago. I had to reinstall maya and now im confused on reinstalling the facecapX plug in. I noticed the resources for installation & manual are no longer on the site. Please email me the install video/process so i can utilize this plug in. Really would like to just use the ones ive purchased already instead of buying all new ones. Thank you!

    Hi

I have a TrueDepth camera on my iPhone 11. I will be using Daz Studio 4.12 Pro 64bit with a PC. Would you please explain the workflow between the two operating systems?

    Thank you.

      Hello!

It’s pretty simple. You record the animation with your phone and one of the apps. Then you can transfer the file to your PC by emailing it to yourself, uploading it to and then downloading it from iCloud, transferring it via USB using an iPhone file browsing program, or I believe you can also use iTunes.

      Best regards,
      LayLo

Good morning, where can I purchase the Face Cap X plugin, try your links but to no avail?
    Ben

    • LayLo says:

      Hello Ben,

Sorry for the super late reply. I thought I was going to be able to get the Maya version of Face Mojo up a lot sooner, but had some work stuff come up. Anyway FaceCap X has been discontinued and has now been replaced by Face Mojo for Maya.

      Thanks and best regards,
      Landon

    Hello,
I’ve been looking for a facial motion capture solution and I came across this app, I am a Maya/zbrush artist so I create my own 3d characters for production. Based on the previous comments I gather that you CANNOT create your own character for face mocap or export the data to drive a created characters performance, is this correct?

    • LayLo says:

      Hi,
I’m not 100% sure what you’re asking. The plug-in only has blend shapes for Daz/CC3 characters. If you have your own characters and your own blend shape, you could set it up to work with your custom character/blend shpes.

  5. Dose FaceCap X work with Cinema 4d?

  6. Simon Gregory says:

I want to download the Facecap X software but I only have a student version of Maya. Can you confirm that it will work with the student version and if not, confirm that you’re happy for me to get a refund?
    Thanks

    • LayLo says:

      Hello,
Thanks for you inquiry. FaceCap X does work with the student version of Maya. If you’re not happy with the product, I offer a 30 day money back guarantee on all my products. I hope that helps.
      Thanks

Hi,this plugin is so great, and I want to buy it. Before that may I ask a question? Dose it only support facial date captured with face cap app? What about ue4 face AR or any other fbx file? thank you

    • LayLo says:

At this time it only supports the Face Cap app. Another FBX could be attached, but it would need to be attached manually. Does the UE4 face AR project have a mesh for demonstrating the motion capture?

  8. moon says:

I want to buy a facecap and I have a question.
I don’t use daznacensis, but I want to rig my own character, so what should I buy from the store?

    • LayLo says:

I’m sorry, but I don’t know what “daznacensis” is, so I don’t know how to answer your question. 🙁

      • moon says:

        oh..sorry. it’s a typing error..

        it’s means daz&genesis

        • LayLo says:

Unfortunately, FaceCap X only works with Genesis 3 Characters, Genesis 8 Characters, and we also have a version that works with Character Creator 3 characters.

It sounds like you’re trying to create a new character from scratch? We don’t currently have a version that supports any mesh/topology.

          Sorry.

what software included in “FaceCap X Ultimate Daz 3D Bundle”?
If I buy this bundle, I can export G3M, G3F, G8M and G8F with 51 faces with facecap apps connection tools without other purchase? am I correct?

    • LayLo says:

The FaceCap X Ultimate Bundle includes the FaceCap X plug-in for Maya, it doesn’t include any standalone software. It has support for all the characters you mentioned and from Maya you can export out the character with the 51 FACS shapes.

To record motion capture data for FaceCap X you will need the Face Cap app for your iPhone which can be purchased from the App Store.

      Does that answer your questions?

      • Andrew Chan says:

Sorry I think I may asked many questions.
The story is that, I wanna use Daz character to work on my company project, and you know, account dept. will ask me many questions on purchasing software, so I need to confirm what items it included and if the items that the bundle not included but I need, I want to submit the request form with that…

        and

  12. Toochukwu Ogbogu says:

    Hello,
I found your video Facecap X for Maya on youtube, and in the video, you say it works with any kind of character. My questions before purchasing this wonderful plug in is this:

1.Do the characters have to all come from Daz? As your documentation doesn’t clearly state the plug in works with all characters.

    2. Also, how would the pipeline work exactly, if I have a fully rigged(both body and face)? Or would we need to just rig the body, and your plug in take care of the facial rigging?

In your youtube video, around the 55 second’s mark, there’s an alien creature working with your plugin. The results is really close to what we want. So did your plugin create a facial rig for the face (a FACS rig)?

Kindly treat as urgent. Thank you.
    Best,
    Toochukwu.

    • LayLo says:

      Hello Toochukwu,
      Thanks for your consideration.
      1. The characters need to be based off the Genesis 3, or Genesis 8 topology, but they don’t need to be purchased from Daz3D.com. They can be bought or made from anywhere as long as they’re based off of the Daz 3D Genesis 3, or Genesis 8 topology.
      2. If your character has a fully rigged body and face you should be able to use those controls in addition to the FACS morphs and controls that FaceCap X will setup. If the face is not rigged it’s not a problem, FaceCap X sets up it’s own rig.
Whether the body is rigged, or not, shouldn’t make a difference for FaceCap X.

The alien creature shown in the video is based off Genesis 3 or Genesis 8 topology. Yes, it created the rig for the creature.
I hope that answers your questions, please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any more.
