Simple Elegance

I got this new character, Jazmine, and wanted to do a render of her. Since the hair I chose for her has kind of an Asian feel to it, I decided to throw in a little bit of Mei Lin 7’s face into the mix. Hope you like it!

Flames 01 Freebie

Sorry for the delay, but here it is!!! Better late then never, plus it’s free, so that should help make up for it right?

Flames 01*

Just extract the files to the root folder of your Daz 3D Library and you should be good to go. Load the prop into your scene, re-size and position to your liking, then render away. You can also load in multiple instances, spin them around, etc. to add more variation.

The flames are set up with an emissive shader, so if you load them into your scene and it throws off your lighting make sure to tweak the emissive settings in the surfaces tab.

When rendering the flames make sure to play around with your camera’s Depth of Field, and/or the Render Settings Bloom filter. You can really get some cool looking effects! Messing with the “Cutout Opacity” value of the shader, under the surfaces tab, also seemed like it had potential.

I hope you enjoy rendering with them! Please leave a link to any images you create with the flames in the comments below. It would be really cool to see what you come up with! Also, let me know if you like them, or not…

*I ask that you please do not redistribute them without my written permission, and if you want to share them with others, please link to this post, not directly to the file. You may use the Flames Facade in both personal and commercial projects. If you use them in commercial project, please leave a link to it below in the comments. Liz the Soldier

Liz the Soldier

Here’s Liz depicted as a soldier. I’m particularly happy with the way this image turned out. Hopefully other people will agree and it’s not just because I dropped myself on my head when I was little, again when I was a teenager, and not to mention all the other concussions I’ve given myself… I digress, I probably had too much coffee and cacao this morning… It’s got me feeling like I just wanna party!

Sneak Preview: Liz the Warrior

Warrior Liz

This is the first picture of Liz with her very own custom skin textures! I created her custom body morph and Shox-Design created her skin textures (although I actually painted the warrior makeup shown in this image). This is my first time collaborating with another artist, so far it’s been awesome! I look forward to working with Shox-Design more!!!

Liz the Assassin

Yet another image of Liz… This time I rendered her with Teen Josie 7’s skin. I also tried a little different lighting scheme then what I would typically do.

Let me know what you think!

In this video I go over a couple quick tips: setting up Spotlights for Iray in DAZ Studio. From producing softer shadows, configuring spotlight specific render settings, to pointers that should help ease the process of aiming your spotlights.

A Tribute to Psylocke

Liz As Psylocke 01

This is my character Liz (pic 1, pic 2) that I have been working on portrayed as Psylocke. I’m a big fan of Marvel Comics superheros! I had a lot of fun working on this character and the scenes I’ve rendered her in, so far. I think the superhero genre might be one of my main focuses from here on out.

Let me know who your favorite superheros are and if there’s any you would like to see portrayed in my render style!

What You Need to Know About NVIDIA Iray

What You Need to Know About Iray

If you haven’t figured it out already, I’m a big fan of using Iray for rendering with Daz Studio 4.8+. While spending time cracking out on it, I’ve figured out a few things I thought were important and worth sharing. I think they’re especially good to know if you’re considering buying a new GPU.

With that being said, I’m just going to dive right in…

    • If you’re tweaking a scene, rendering then canceling, rendering then canceling, eventually your VRAM will get full and Iray will stop using your GPU for rendering and switch to your CPU. Which typically equals longer rendering times. It can even happen when letting the render finish completely, though, for whatever reason, it seems to manage the VRAM better in this second scenario.
    • The solution, when it switches over to your CPU, you have to close Daz Studio and restart it. Then everything will be back to normal again. Also, if you keep the number of render preview windows open at a time to a minimum, when your Render Target is New Window, it seems to help the VRAM from getting as full.
    • I have verified that this is a known issue with the Daz Development Team.
    • When it first happened to me I thought one of my GPUs went out. When Iray switches from GPU to CPU I can hear it, because the fans on my water cooler crank up. I then fired up my GPU monitoring software and saw one of the cards wasn’t being used. Long story short, I finally realized the only reason the other card was running was to run my monitor, my GPUs were fine, then I contacted DAZ…
    • When using Iray with multiple GPUs, all the data being processed for rendering has to fit into each card’s VRAM independently. Which means if you have a 4GB card and a 6GB card, and the scene to be rendered requires over 4GB VRAM, the 4GB card will be excluded.
    • I’ve verified this with folks from both Daz and NVIDIA.
    • If your NVIDIA card doesn’t have at least 4GB VRAM, Daz Studio will default to CPU rendering.
    • I also confirmed this with Daz. (After the public release of Daz Studio 4.9.)

Well, I hope you learned something! If you found this post valuable, don’t forget it to share it with someone else.

Catch you on the flipside…
